In June, V+O organized a highly important panel discussion titled “Emotional challenges of the first days of parenthood that are rarely discussed” for their client, Rosa Water, with the support of the Ministry of Health.
This event marked the beginning of a series of activities planned throughout the year to raise awareness and break the stigma surrounding this crucial topic. The panel aimed to provide support to parents facing baby blues and emotional challenges after the birth of their child. Guests had the opportunity to hear from experts who shared their knowledge and rich experience.
Dr. Oliver Vidojevic, a psychiatrist from the Institute of Mental Health, explained the difference between baby blues and postpartum depression, emphasizing the importance of recognition and adequate support during these periods. Dr. Mirjana Micovic, a pediatrician from the Health Center Stari Grad, highlighted the gradual development of motherhood and suggested that parents should be open to advice from their surroundings, filtering it according to their beliefs and building their parenting style that suits them and their child. Olivera Damnjanovic, a visiting nurse, emphasized the importance of support and involvement of partners during this period.
Public figures and parents of three children, Bojana Barovic and Nikola Rokvic, shared their personal stories and challenges they faced during parenthood. Their honesty encouraged other parents to openly confront these challenges.
The panel was opened by Dr. Snezana Pantic Aksentijevic, the Head of the Public Health Group on behalf of the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Serbia, under whose patronage Rosa Water has been implementing various national programs for over a decade to create a better environment for mothers and babies, as well as the entire family – from establishing a human milk bank, launching 20 parenting schools across Serbia,to equipping and establishing breastfeeding rooms.
